TV Talks Shows Are On Ice. Here Comes Craig Ferguson – On A Podcast.

With the late-night television talk shows on hold as the SAG-AFTRA strike continues, former TV talker Craig Ferguson is launching his new podcast August 1. Ferguson announced in February that he would turn to the audio format via iHeartPodcasts, and now that the show is set to debut, we know the format. In the series, called Joy, A Podcast, Ferguson will bring his interview talents and singular world view to a discussion of the modern state of joy.

The creators say Ferguson will be sitting down with notable guests from the worlds of entertainment, science, government, and others asking where they find joy in a world that seems by any rational measure to be collapsing around us. Upcoming guests include Gabriel Iglesias, Tony Hawk, Angela Kinsey, Kathie Lee Gifford, Diedrich Bader, Lewis Black, Wendie Malick, Shirley Manson, and Tom Papa.

“Joy is an essential human coping mechanism and I’m interested in how different individuals manifest it, particularly when circumstances make it difficult whether it be a demanding or harrowing job, a challenging existential problem or just watching the news,” Ferguson said in a statement.

New episodes of Joy, A Podcast will be released each Tuesday.

The actor-turned-late night personality hosted “The Late Late Show” on CBS from 2005 to 2014. Ferguson also hosted the TV game show “Celebrity Name Game from 2014 to 2017. Deadline reports the podcast arrives as he is looking to launch a new late-night weekly show called “Channel Surf with Craig Ferguson.”

Television talk shows have been fertile breeding grounds for podcasts with most of the biggest names already making the jump to audio. The list of former hosts includes Stitcher’s Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, iHeartPodcast’s Chelsea Handler series Dear Chelsea, Apple’s The Problem with Jon Stewart, and The Ringer’s Larry Wilmore: Black on the Air.
