November Format Counts Show Christian, Spanish, Religion Still Rolling.

There’s good news for half of the formats in the top 10 — four of those in the top five — of Inside Radio/PrecisionTrak’s monthly counts.

Contemporary Christian, ranked fourth, still has the most impressive story, as it has added new stations every month for the past year, without a measured decline. Overall, the format has brought in 46 outlets since November 2024 for a 3.2% gain and 37 year-to-date, up 2.6%.

While not including the steady growth of contemporary Christian, second-ranked religion — which includes stations featuring religious teaching, hymns and other related content — has added more stations than any other format in the top 10, 78 year-over-year for a 3.7% lift and 63 since January (+3%).

Also up year-over-year and year-to-date is fifth-place Spanish-language radio, adding 35 outlets (+2.6%) and 30 (+2.3%), respectively. News/talk, which ranks third, is up slightly since November 2024 but has shed five stations since January.

The fifth format with a growth story is classic rock, ranked eighth, which is not only up both ways with a 2.1% boost, but also up every month since August, adding 10 stations from that point forward.

The remaining five formats, including top-ranked country, show losses either way. Country is not only down by double digits year-over-year (shedding 19 stations) and year-to-date (-21) but has seen its total steadily decrease since September.

In the lower half of the top 10, variety — including stations with three or more distinct formats, either block-programmed or simultaneously — lost two since last November and 10 since January. Classic hits, which ties variety for sixth, is down just a bit both ways, but has shed eight stations since August.

Sports, ranked ninth, is off by 16 (-2.7%) year-over-year and 15 (-2.5%) year-to-date, while down by nine outlets since September. Top 40, in 10th place, has shown no gains over the past 12 months, shedding 24 (-4.4%) since last November and 23 (-4.2%) from January.
