Actress Anna Faris was among the first celebrities to see the potential of podcasting, launching her Anna Faris Is Unqualified series in 2015. While that relationship advice and star chatter show is for adults, Faris’ latest audio project is geared toward the entire family. She has teamed up with QCode for a new kids-targeted series called The Peepkins. Faris will star and executive produce the podcast.
“I play an eccentric creature named Hatch, who spends her days getting into (and out of) trouble with her best friend Noah. With mysteries to be solved, tales to be told, and songs to be sung, it’s screen-free entertainment that encourages kids to ‘see’ the story and make it their own,” says Faris. “I love the idea of kids being inspired to pick up some markers or grab some clay as they imagine these fantastic characters on their many adventures.”
Actor Maulik Pancholy of “30 Rock” and “Phineas and Ferb” fame stars alongside Faris. The Peepkins follows Hatch (voiced by Faris) and her best friend Noah (voiced by Pancholy) as they get into a load of shenanigans in the quaint midwestern town of Coopmore Ridge. QCode says the series is full of quirky personalities and catchy songs. The podcast even includes an original soundtrack by cast members including Pancholy and actor Diedrich Bader (Better Things, Office Space).
“The Peepkins is such a great way for families to experience Jeremy and Stuart’s artistic and creative vision for this fun and adventurous world of creatures,” said Pancholy. “I am glad that I have been able to work closely with such a talented cast and the QCode team to bring this vision to life and look forward to listeners having the opportunity to enjoy it just as I have enjoyed portraying ‘Noah’.”
The project reunites Pancholy with Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, co-creator and executive producer for Disney’s “Phineas and Ferb” who is directing the podcast. The Peepkins is produced by QCode and Next 5 Miles Productions. Executive producers include Anna Faris, Michael Barrett, and series creators Jeremy Bullis and Stuart Jenkins. It is based on the artwork of Bullis, while Jenkins is the co-creator of “Robbie” for Comedy Central and is the co-creator and co-host of the Los Angeles-based live comedy and variety show Victory Lap, which ran for several years.
“The Peepkins are a bunch of offbeat, freethinking, and highly intelligent creatures, who, like all of us, occasionally struggle to navigate their relationships between friends and neighbors,” said Bullis and Jenkins in a joint statement. “While a comedy at heart, there are thrills, there’s drama, singing, and though you won’t be able to see it, we promise you the dance numbers will be spectacular.”
Along with Faris, Pancholy, and Bader, the cast features Adrian Pasdar, Lynette DuPree, James Wellington, Punam Patel, Mara Shuster-Lefkowitz, and Knox Collier. The Peepkins is slated for a November 22 release as QCode targets the Thanksgiving holiday travel season. Follow-up episodes will be available every Tuesday in the 10-episode first season.
