Deseret Media’s KSL Podcasts and Lemonada Media have found success in the past, creating their hit true crime series The Letter. Now the two companies are again working together, along with Dave Cawley, the creator and host of Cold, to produce a new series called Uinta Triangle. The nine-episode series retraces the global journeys of hiker Eric Robinson, which culminated in his mysterious disappearance in Utah’s remote High Uintas Wilderness.
“This story started with a simple question: what happened to Eric Robinson? That launched me on a worldwide hunt for answers, trying to understand how such an experienced and well-prepared hiker could just vanish,” says Cawley. “Uinta Triangle is part investigation, part adventure journal, part human drama. It’s a celebration of Eric Robinson’s love of nature, and a meditation on the pitfalls of facing the outdoors alone.”
An experienced solo adventurer, Robinson spent years walking some of the world’s most iconic trails, from Nepal to Patagonia, in search of peace and healing after personal loss. But in 2011, Robinson, 64, planned to spend 10 days hiking solo. But after setting out on a hike through the rugged Utah backcountry, he vanished without a trace. It left Robinson’s wife, Marilyn, searching for answers about what happened to the man she loved for years.
“Uinta Triangle is much more than a ‘lost in the woods’ story,” says KSL Podcasts VP Sheryl Worsley. “It’s also about the lengths people will go to find answers about their loved ones and the trails that call to them.”
The team that researched and produced the Uintas Triangle podcast went halfway around the world to meet Robinson’s family and friends in Australia. They also dug into his motivations and justifications for hiking alone. And the research also included walking some of Robinson’s favorite trails in Australia, New Zealand and the U.S.
“We were gripped by this story from the first time KSL shared it with us,” Lemonada CEO Jessica Cordova Kramer says. “What we loved most about it was how strongly it paints a picture of all the people involved in this mystery, including Eric and his wife.”
KSL Podcasts and Lemonada Media have released the first two episodes of Uinta Triangle. The remaining new episodes will be released on Tuesdays.
