Building Black Biz is a new initiative from iHeartMedia’s New York cluster that is designed to support and grow local Black-owned businesses in the New York metro area. During the next three months, the company will donate more than 100 million media impressions to the program on the cluster’s radio stations – hip-hop/R&B “Power 105.1” WWPR-FM, CHR “Z100” WHTZ, AC “106.7 Lite FM” WLTW, hot AC WKTU (103.5), classic rock “Q104.3” WAXQ and talk WOR (710) – and the stations’ websites and social media platforms.
A companion website for the initiative, BuildingBlackBiz.com, features educational content developed in partnership with Operation Hope, a nonprofit that provides financial and economic education. Throughout the campaign, listeners will be encouraged to shop and support local Black-owned businesses through the website’s vendor database.
“Building Black Biz” will feature local successful entrepreneurs explaining how they started their business and what advice they would give to those thinking of doing the same. The companion podcast, hosted by station personalities including WWPR-FM’s Angela Yee and WHTZ’s Maxwell, will feature successful Black business owners, executives and other notable trailblazers offering advice and business guidance.
“I am so proud of our team for going above and beyond and creating this comprehensive campaign,” iHeartMedia New York President Bernie Weiss said in a release. “New York needs more Black-owned businesses and I am thrilled we can use the power of all of our six radio stations to do our part in making a real impact.”
