Oprah Brings Her Book Club Into Audio With A New Podcast.

Oprah Winfrey is expanding her reach into podcasting with the debut of The Oprah Podcast. The new series is a podcast companion to Oprah’s Book Club, anchored by monthly conversations with featured authors. Winfrey says she will also speak with thought leaders, global newsmakers, visionaries and cultural changemakers to explore themes including happiness, resilience, consciousness and connection.

“Connecting with people about what matters to us in this moment, so we can all continue to reach our highest, truest potential is what I’m most interested in offering at this time in my life,” Winfrey says in a statement.

The monthly interview with Oprah’s Book Club authors kicks off with the first pick in this series, “Small Things Like These” by Claire Keegan, published by Grove Atlantic. It is a tale of one man’s courage and a portrait of love and family.

“To know that Oprah Winfrey took pleasure in reading my book is the most exquisite compliment, which will last my lifetime,” Keegan says. “To be told that she has also recommended it for others to read and has chosen this novel for her book club is a tremendous honor. May her wonderful book club encourage people into reading for years and years to come.”

Other upcoming guests include Mel Robbins on Dec. 10, Daniel Pink on Dec. 17, Ina Garten on Dec. 24, and Dr. Vivek Murthy on Dec. 31.

The Oprah Podcast will be released as both an audio podcast and YouTube series. All episodes of can be found on the Oprah’s Book Club playlist on The Oprah Channel YouTube page. New episodes will be released every Tuesday.

Winfrey has partnered with Starbucks as the presenting sponsor of the show. Episodes will be recorded inside Starbucks cafes. The first conversation will take place at the Starbucks Reserve Empire State Building store in New York. Winfrey will also share a recommended Starbucks beverage pairing that customers can enjoy while discussing the book at their local Starbucks store. For instance, the first episode sees Winfrey recommending a cup of Starbucks Christmas Roast along with Keegan’s book.

This latest venture between Oprah and Starbucks marks their third collaboration. The first was in 1997 when Oprah’s Book Club selections were made available in Starbucks stores with proceeds going to literacy funds, and then in 2014 Oprah paired with Starbucks to create the Teavana Oprah Chai Tea, which raised $21 million to support youth education organizations across the country.

“As one of my greatest pride and joys this past 30 years has been introducing books to new audiences, I am delighted to partner with Starbucks as we craft this new podcast,” says Winfrey. “It is the perfect opportunity to bring together readers around things we both love: books, coffee and conversation.”

The show marks a second podcast series for Winfrey. She already produces Oprah’s Super Soul podcast, which features her interviews with thought leaders, best-selling authors, spiritual luminaries, as well as health and wellness experts.
