How did two movies considered to be among the top 100 American films of all-time get overlooked for Oscar nominations in the same year? And why did the film frequently hailed as the “Greatest Film of All Time” not take home the Oscar? A new podcast hosted by comedian and Emmy Award-winning writer Bruce Vilanch aims to provide the answers. Launching today (Nov. 11), OSCARS: What Were They Thinking?! targets both cinephiles and casual movie fans by exploring behind-the-scenes secrets of the Academy Awards. Co-hosted by Adam ‘Tex’ Davis, the screenwriter of the cult-hit Ryan Reynolds comedy “Just Friends,” the show dives into the history and controversies of the Oscars, tackling the puzzling decisions that have sometimes left audiences scratching their heads for decades.
“I’ve spent a third of my life writing for the Oscars, and trust me, plenty happens behind the curtain that the public never sees,” Vilanch says in a press release. “This podcast is about looking at films through the test of time and bringing humor and insight to the sometimes-puzzling choices the Academy’s made over the years.”
Hosted by Megaphone and produced by Atomic Entertainment, the show promises “jaw-dropping revelations… from the shocking wins to the baffling snubs” as Vilanch and Davis dissect iconic moments in Oscar history. Each episode features historical insights, discussions, and “never-before-heard stories from Hollywood’s biggest night.”
