Netflix Will Remake ‘Archive 81’ Into A TV Series.


The horror fiction podcast Archive 81 is heading for Netflix in a deal with the production company Atomic Monster. The streamer says the TV series will be “an original story loosely inspired” by the podcast, which has released three seasons. Marc Sollinger and Daniel Powell, the creators of the podcast will serve as co-producers on the TV series.


“With Archive 81, we’re hoping to give the supernatural horror genre a new twist -- while keeping a dark, deeply emotional romance as its core,” said Executive Producer Rebecca Sonnenshine. She earlier produced “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Boys.”


Here is how Netflix describes the TV series that is in the works: “When archivist Dan Turner takes a mysterious job restoring a collection of damaged videotapes from 1994, he finds himself reconstructing the work of documentary filmmaker Melody Pendras and her investigation into a dangerous cult. As Dan is drawn into Melody’s story, he becomes convinced he can save her from the terrifying end she met 25 years ago.”


There has been no announcement on when the series will be available. But Netflix says eight, one-hour episodes are planned.


The list of actors involved in the project include Mamoudou Athie, who will play Dan Turner and Dina Shihabi, who will play Melody Pendras. The list also includes actors Martin Donovan, Matt McGorry, Julia Chan, Evan Jonigkeit, and Ariana Neal.
