July’s Pod Stars: Conservative Talkers Benefit From Political Season.

Interest in the political season is growing as Election Day draws closer, and that is reflected in the top ten shows as measured by Podtrac. Among the publishers it measures, Podtrac says two of the biggest movers were conservative talk shows. The Dan Bongino Show moved up from No. 9 in June to No. 5 in July – which gave the host his highest chart position to date. The Daily Wire’s The Ben Shapiro Show also benefited, rising two spots month-to-month to sixth place.

Overall, the top five held steady led by the New York Times’ morning news series The Daily. The rise of Bongino and Shapiro, however, resulted in several shows sliding backward, while Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take returned to the top 10.

Bongino was not the only show in Podtrac’s top 20 that had a four-point rise. So did Wondery’s Mr. Ballen Podcast: Strange, Dark & Mysterious Stories, which re-entered the top 20 at No. 19 in July. The biggest dip was to the ABC News true crime podcast 20/20, which slid four to No. 18.

Overall, Podtrac says the unique monthly audience was up for 11 of the US ranking participants in July over June. Three of those publishers saw their U.S. downloads rise month-to-month.
