Hit Horror Podcast ‘Mayfair Watchers Society’ Headed To Big Screen.

A horror podcast that has generated more than 3 million downloads is making the leap to Hollywood. Cineverse has struck a deal with viral horror creator Trevor Henderson to turn “Mayfair Watchers Society” into a feature film, extending the scripted audio franchise into theaters while preparing to launch its fourth podcast season.

The deal marks another example of podcast intellectual property finding a second life in film, with Cineverse building on an established audio audience and Henderson’s growing popularity among Hollywood studios.

The horror podcast “Mayfair Watchers Society” debuted in October 2022. It is produced by Bloody FM, the horror brand within the Cineverse Podcast Network. Created by Henderson and Pacific Obadiah, with Obadiah producing, the series unfolds through fictional found recordings and audio accounts documenting encounters with strange creatures in the town of Mayfair.

Each episode follows different residents confronting monsters drawn from Henderson’s distinctive horror universe.

The planned movie will retain the podcast’s anthology approach, transforming its collection of audio recordings into a found-footage-style feature film. Cineverse says the adaptation will feature several creatures familiar to podcast listeners, including The Needle, Creekman, Owls with Teeth, Mr. Bag, Anxious Dogs, Scissors and The Clatter.

Henderson will serve as a producer and participate in the writing process, giving the original creator a direct role in bringing the audio stories to the screen.

“The Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting teams have been great partners on the podcast, and I’ve long been impressed with the film side of the company, and its indie philosophy,” Henderson says. “I look forward to being very hands-on with adapting the podcast into a feature and look forward to working closely with them as we develop the film, select the directing and writing teams, and get closer to bringing this to fans.”

The companies have not announced a director, cast, production schedule or release date.

The movie will not replace the podcast. Cineverse says a fourth season of “Mayfair Watchers Society” is preparing to launch on its podcast network, allowing the franchise to continue in audio as its theatrical adaptation moves forward.
