Host Endorsements Boost Brand Recall For Radio Listeners.

Host-read advertising has a stronger influence on purchasing decisions than prerecorded spots among daily radio listeners, according to new findings from The Podcast Study 2026. The research also finds that host endorsements can improve ad awareness, brand recall and trust, highlighting the value of radio personalities to advertisers beyond their on-air audience connection.
The study finds that 47% of daily radio listeners say host-read ads strongly influence them to try or buy a product, compared with 34% for prerecorded spots. In addition, 62% of daily radio listeners say they stay through host-read ads.
The impact of an endorsement extends beyond the ad itself. Among radio listeners, 54% say they are more likely to notice an ad after a host endorsement, while 56% say they are more likely to remember the brand. Another 49% are more likely to trust the ad, and 46% are more likely to consider making a purchase.

“Your hosts aren’t just why people tune in. They’re why people buy,” says Hal Rood, partner at Strategic Solutions Research. “Nearly half of daily radio listeners act on a host read. That's much more than just an ad.”
The findings point to an opportunity for radio broadcasters to emphasize the value of their personalities when developing advertising proposals and demonstrating campaign effectiveness to clients. Host endorsements may influence how listeners respond to other advertising within a schedule, creating additional value beyond the endorsement itself.
“Advertisers want to earn trust and attention,” says Tim Bronsil, CEO of Point-To-Point Marketing. “A host read can give huge lift across a whole run of schedule. We will talk about how radio can best leverage this.”
The radio-focused findings will be explored further in a presentation of The Podcast Study 2026 on Tuesday (Oct. 20), with Rood and Bronsil discussing how broadcasters can apply the research to advertiser conversations and their broader sales strategies. Register HERE.
