Exactly Right Media, which has been a free agent since its exclusive distribution deal with Wondery and Amazon Music ended in January 2024, has struck a deal to make iHeartMedia its new partner. Under the arrangement, iHeart will have exclusive co-production, sales representation, marketing and distribution for My Favorite Murder and the other podcasts on the roster of the company created by Georgia Hardstark and Karen Kilgariff.
The new arrangement comes on the heels of My Favorite Murder marking its ninth anniversary. The true crime series has had roughly two billion lifetime downloads and Hardstark and Kilgariff have sold out more than 100 live shows around the world.
“We’re thrilled to join forces with iHeartMedia to amplify our shows and reach even more listeners,” Kilgariff and Hardstark say in a joint statement. “The ninth anniversary of ‘My Favorite Murder’ is the perfect time to join forces with iHeartMedia. We’re looking forward to working together to create even more compelling, thought-provoking content.”
The Exactly Right Media roster also includes shows such as Buried Bones, Ghosted! by Roz Hernandez, and This Podcast Will Kill You, among others. In addition to sales, marketing and distribution of the 14 current shows, its deal with iHeart will include the creation and co-production of new shows. They will leverage Exactly Right Media’s production capabilities powered by their new audio and video studio, which opened in May 2024.
“Exactly Right’s bold approach to storytelling and their passionate, engaged listener base make them an exceptional partner for us,” says Will Pearson, President of iHeartPodcasts. “We’re proud to have their existing shows joining our family and can’t wait to create new podcasts with them,” he says in the announcement.
Founded in 2018, the Exactly Right podcast network previously had a deal with Wondery and Amazon Music. The arrangement — worth a reported $100 million — gave Wondery and Amazon Music a one-week exclusive window to episodes before they were widely distributed across all apps until it came to an end last year.
