Buffalo will get a new conservative talk radio outlet this summer as Radio One Buffalo rolls out “1270 The Patriot” WUSW on Independence Day, July 4. Buddy Shula’s Radio One Buffalo purchased the station, formerly “Talk 1270” WHLD, from Cumulus Media for $150,000 in May.
Shula says the station aims to fill a gap in the market for “real conservative talk.” “I am thrilled to be debuting a local talk station that deals with real issues,” he said. “I feel the conservative talk lane is open, and that will give listeners a choice of the type of talk that they really want to hear.”
Anchoring the weekday lineup is Premiere Networks’ “The Sean Hannity Show” from 3–6pm, making its return to Buffalo radio. Additional nationally syndicated shows on the schedule include Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, Erik Erickson, Senator Ted Cruz, Charlie Kirk, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton, Jesse Kelly, and Roger Stone, among others.
Shula emphasized the importance of local content as well. Leading the station’s local programming will be New York State Assemblyman David DiPietro, who Shula notes is the only statewide elected official in America to receive an endorsement from Donald Trump in 2024.
Trump’s statement on DiPietro, posted to X, called the lawmaker “a tough advocate for the America First agenda,” citing his positions on border security, law enforcement, and the Second Amendment.
In addition to political commentary, the station will include content from Salem’s Town Hall Media, Bloomberg News, and CNBC market reports.
One partnership that didn’t materialize, however, was with Fox News Radio. Shula expressed disappointment over Fox’s decision not to affiliate with the new station. “I did everything I could to bring Fox News and Fox programming on board to WUSW,” Shula said. “I can’t imagine that Fox would want their news on any other talk station in Buffalo.”
He pointed to Audacy’s local news/talk outlets as the only other talk options in the market and noted the company’s post-bankruptcy ownership ties to Soros Fund Management. “I was shocked and I’m still scratching my head trying to figure it out,” he said.
The station will broadcast with 5,000 watts, covering Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Southern Ontario and surrounding areas. Digital distribution will include streaming at 1270thepatriot.com, mobile apps, voice-activated devices, and Apple CarPlay.
Program Director Glenn Topolski said the station is committed to “embracing the latest technology” and will also offer content through social media, audio and video podcasts.
“In my office, the Constitution of the United States is proudly displayed,” Shula said. “It’s a constant reminder of why it’s great to be a Patriot.”
