Black Information Network Elevates Four; Will Expand Local News In All Markets Next Year.

The Black Information Network plans to expand its local news coverage in all of its 32 affiliate markets in 2022. The expansion coincides with the promotions of Tanita Myers to VP/News Operations, Chris Thompson to VP/Network Operations and Lauren Crawford to Senior Director of Social Strategy. The iHeartMedia network says all of the promotions go into effect immediately.

The network, which was launched in June 2020 as the first-of-its-kind 24/7 national and local all-news network devoted to the Black community, quickly grew to its current 32 affiliates, including partner stations in New York, San Francisco, Atlanta, Seattle, Minneapolis, Nashville and New Orleans.

BIN says the expansion will create new employment opportunities at the network, including multiple news anchor and reporter positions, a Managing Editor and a Podcast Managing Editor.

“We are incredibly proud of the growth and success of BIN during our first year,” BIN President Tony Coles said in a release. “We are thrilled to continue our leadership in providing the most trusted news source for the Black community, offering even more local news coverage to the communities we serve. BIN’s success has been, in no small part, due to our dedicated and talented team. I look forward to seeing how Tanita, Chris and Lauren continue to grow within BIN, and I am excited to add even more experienced talent to our team.”

Myers, who previously served as Director of News Operations until her promotion, came to BIN at its launch after 15 years at Reach Media, where she was Senior Director of Radio Operations. She earlier worked as Director of Operations for “The Tom Joyner Morning Show” and as Executive Producer of “The Rickey Smiley Morning Show.”

Thompson’s former title was Director of News Operations. He is also a former Reach Media veteran, serving as VP of Radio Operations at “The Tom Joyner Morning Show” as well as for Joyner’s “Right Back Atcha” weekend show. He previously served as Executive Director of Network Operations for Buckley Radio.

Crawford was serving as Associate Editor prior to her promotion. Based in New York, Crawford has been overseeing BIN’s digital site and social media accounts. She has also worked as a writer, reporter, editor and digital host.
