Research Highlights Podcasting’s Advertising Effectiveness.

Several studies are giving podcasts high marks for advertising effectiveness, according to Audacy’s latest Insights blog. The research highlights the medium’s ability to deliver measurable results for brands while reinforcing the value of podcast advertising.
According to a 2026 Audacy survey of 1,000 adults 18+, 75% of listeners rate ads read or endorsed by podcast hosts as most authentic vs. 54% for social media influencers. Additionally, 55% of listeners say their strongest connection starts through a podcast feed vs. 15% for social media, according to eMarketer.
Those large gaps, the report says, suggests podcasts are “a fundamentally different kind of medium” where that difference isn’t just about format but time and attention.
“Podcast hosts have spent years building something that most advertising environments can’t manufacture: a genuine relationship with their audience,” Audacy’s report says. “[It’s] the kind of influence built over hundreds of hours of listening, inside jokes, personal stories and the accumulated trust that comes from a host who shows up consistently.”
Put another way, the report points out that “when someone follows an influencer on social media, they’re opting into a curated feed alongside hundreds of other accounts. When someone subscribes to a podcast, they’re choosing to spend 30, 60, sometimes 90 minutes in uninterrupted company with one voice. That’s a different level of commitment, and it produces a different level of influence.”
Backing that up, an MRI Simmons study conducted earlier this year found that 72% of heavy podcast listeners hear each episode all the way through, while nearly half (48%) tune in to new episodes on the day they’re released.
For advertisers, this is good news. MRI Simmons shows 71% of heavy podcast listeners pay more attention to podcast ads than to those seen or heard anywhere else, while Acast Podcast Pulse finds that 84% say a podcaster has changed their mind about something. Audacy’s study found that 76% of listeners have purchased a brand after hearing an ad from a podcast, and more than half (55%) say they are more likely to consider host-recommended products.
What explains this level of effectiveness? “When a host recommends a product, it doesn’t register as advertising — it registers as a recommendation from someone the listener has chosen to spend time with, someone whose judgment they’ve had hundreds of hours to evaluate,” the report says. “That’s a very different thing from an influencer executing a brand deal.”
One more research finding that should draw advertisers’ attention: nearly two-thirds (64%) of heavy podcast listeners say they trust podcast ads more than ads on any other medium, according to MRI Simmons.
“That trust translates into favorability,” Audacy’s report says. “Listeners feel positively toward the brands that support the shows they love, which is a level of goodwill that’s genuinely hard to buy in other channels.”
When it comes to authenticity, the blog notes that “podcast hosts have been building it for years, one episode at a time. For brands smart enough to tap into it, that’s not just a media placement. It’s a relationship with an audience that’s already primed to listen.”
