Babbel Barnstorms To Top Of Radio Spot Count Tally, Wendy’s and Staples Make Big Moves.

Babbel has been a regular among radio’s top advertisers for the past five years. Now, for the first time in three years, the language learning app has vaulted into the top spot on the Media Monitors tally. Increasing its spot weight to 46,495 occurrences, Babbel moves 3-1 for its first trip to the pole position since the week of July 20-26, 2020. Upside, last week’s top radio advertiser based on spot volume, trades places, dropping from No. 1 to No. 3 with ZipRecruiter steady in second place.

There are other major movers in the latest spot count tracker. Wendy’s, which has become the most aggressive fast food chain on the radio this summer, jumps 13-5 with 31,561 spots detected. Two weeks earlier Wendy’s went all the way to No. 2 for its highest position since Inside Radio began tracking Media Monitors data in 2015.

Targeting back-to-school shoppers, Staples-Staples Connect leaps 12-6 with 30,590 commercials. It marks the first time the rebranded office supplies retailer, formerly known as just Staples, has placed in radio’s top 10 advertisers since the week of May 15-21. Also back in the top ten is Indeed with a 16-10 jump fueled by 26,559 spot plays. Prior to last week, the online job recruitment service has been a perennial top 10 radio advertiser.

For the week of July 24-30, 2023, the top ten on the Media Monitors tally are Babbel at 1, Zip Recruiter at 2, Upside at 3, Discover at 4, Wendy’s at 5, Staples-Staples Connect at 6, “Outlaws The Good Thief” podcast at 7, Lowe’s at 8, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 9 and Indeed at 10.
