The Radio.com domain has been sold. Audacy originally placed the domain up for auction in December 2022 with a minimum bid of $2.5 million. The auction closed in March of 2023 without a successful bidder, and the company put on hold any further auctions at that time.
The price of the domain and the name of the buyer have not been disclosed.
Once regarded as the best domain for the industry, Radio.com, along with TV.com, was obtained by CBS in 2008 when it bought CNET for $1.8 billion. Radio.com was originally registered in 1996 and CNET purchased it and TV.com later that year for $30,000. CBS transferred the domain to its radio division, where it served as CBS Radio’s streaming platform and the primary domain of its stations.
When Entercom purchased CBS Radio in 2017, the Radio.com domain transferred with the sale and continued as the company’s primary domain. The platform expanded with the combination of Entercom and CBS Radio stations, all available via the platform.
In May 2020, Entercom updated the Radio.com mobile app to increase content discovery through individual user recommendations. Registered users were privy to a personalized homepage with additional stations and podcasts based on listening habits.
Entercom rebranded as Audacy in March 2021, and benched the Radio.com domain in favor of Audacy.com.
