A mainstay of Philadelphia radio will soon step away, as Mark Razz has announced his retirement from Beasley Media Group, with his final day at country WXTU (92.5) set for May 22.
Razz joined the company in 2006 and spent more than 16 years on-air at WXTU, most recently hosting the “Razz on the Radio” midday program. In addition to his on-air role, he has served as Program Director since 2019, after previously holding positions as Assistant Program Director and Music Director. His tenure helped shape the station’s identity as a leading country outlet in the Philadelphia market.
Before arriving at WXTU, Razz logged six years as afternoon drive host at rock WMMR under Greater Media ownership, capping a 26-year career in Philadelphia radio that spanned multiple formats and roles.
Under his programming leadership, WXTU earned multiple CMA Major Market Station of the Year nominations between 2020 and 2025, along with Academy of Country Music recognition, including a Major Market Station of the Year win in 2024. The station also garnered honors from the National Association of Broadcasters’ Marconi Radio Awards, including a Country Station of the Year win in 2024.
Razz himself received industry recognition with ACM and CMA Major Market Personality of the Year nominations earlier in his career, reflecting both his on-air impact and influence within the format.
Razz made the announcement on air during a Cinco de Mayo broadcast with country artist Greylan James. He told listeners that the timing is right for a lifestyle change. “I’ve been doing this since 1982, and it’s time for me to do something different,” he said. “It’s a good time for me to move on. I have some things I want to do in my personal life, and my wife has some things that she wants to do... and I just want to do something different. So, it’s time for me to retire. And I think I’m ready.”
Beasley executives credited Razz’s dual role as programmer and personality for the station’s sustained success.
“Razz has played a major role in the success and evolution of WXTU over the years,” said Justin Chase, Chief Content Officer of Beasley Media Group. “From his on-air presence to his leadership as Program Director, he has helped shape the station’s sound and culture in a meaningful way. He leaves behind a strong legacy and a team that has benefited greatly from his leadership.”
“Razz has been a cornerstone of WXTU and our Philadelphia cluster,” said Paul Blake, Vice President and Market Manager of Beasley Media Group Philadelphia. “His passion for country music, deep connection with our audience, and leadership behind the scenes have made a lasting impact on our station and our community. We are incredibly grateful for his many contributions and wish him all the best in this next chapter.”
Razz’s departure marks the end of an era for the heritage country outlet, where he has been closely tied to its growth, awards recognition, and connection with listeners over the past two decades.
