Wondery’s Newest True Crime Series Will Remain A Subscriber Exclusive.

A subscription to Wondery+ has typically given listeners early access to shows, before they are widely distributed a week or two later. But a new true crime podcast will be exclusive to Wondery+ subscribers as part of a deal with UK publisher The Standard (formerly the Evening Standard) and production studio Message Heard. 

The podcast is hosted by journalist Katie Strick, who has reported on the true crime story told in the limited series (In)Justice: Killer Privilege for the past decade. It tells the story of 23-year-old university graduate Alex Morgan, who in 2014 was working in commercial property in London. Just after Christmas, he returned to Zurich, where he had lived as a teenager, to meet friends, including Bennet von Vertes, the ultra-rich son of a gallery owner. They partied hard into the early hours before Alex returned to his friend’s villa. At approximately 7am, von Vertes called the police to report that his friend was dead. The list of Morgan’s injuries was extensive; he had been thrown against the coffee table, stabbed with a shard of glass, and impaled with a meter-long candlestick. Morgan died from asphyxiating on his own blood. Nearly all the bones in his head were broken, and teeth were lodged in his throat. Bennet had sustained only a small cut to his hand.

(In)Justice: Killer Privilege follows the story of Morgan’s mother, Katja Faber, as she fights to achieve justice. It also raises fresh allegations against von Vertes since his release from jail resulted in a cat-and-mouse game with the authorities. Wondery says the story explores the psychology of children of the super-rich, traumatic grief, and the influence of power and wealth on the justice system today.

(In)Justice: Killer Privilege launches on Wondery+ on Wednesday (March 5), with all episodes available to binge ad-free at launch. The company says the podcast will be available through The Standard’s platforms to all readers later this year.
