With Carton, Parkins Out At FS1, Could Either Be Headed Back To Radio?

With Fox Sports 1’s cancellation of “Breakfast Ball” co-hosted by Craig Carton and Danny Parkins, two veterans of sports radio, might either be headed back in that direction?

Carton left his afternoon drive hosting gig on Audacy sports “The Fan” WFAN/AM-FM New York (660/101.9) in 2023 for a seven-figure deal with FS1 to focus on “The Carton Show” — later rebranded as “Breakfast Ball” — which he began hosting in mornings for Fox in 2022, after juggling both that and the WFAN afternoon show, co-hosted by Evan Roberts, for nearly a year.

Since leaving the weekday show, Carton has remained a part of WFAN by way of his Saturday morning show, “Hello, My Name is Craig,” focused on gambling addiction and recovery, a subject Carton knows well having served a three-year prison sentence for securities and wire fraud.

Before “Breakfast Ball,” Parkins co-hosted afternoons from 2011 to 2024 on Audacy’s “670 The Score” WSCR Chicago. Before his permanent move to TV, he had already been a guest on FS1’s “First Things First” and filled in for two days on Colin Cowherd’s “The Herd.”

FS1’s cancellation of “Breakfast Ball,” which Carton and Parkins hosted along with former NFL offensive lineman Mark Schlereth, came as a result of the show’s inability to find a significant audience, according to various sources.

While there's been little speculation on Parkins’ next move, a return to full-time on WFAN for Carton is “not out of the question,” according to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, as reported by Awful Announcing. The question is where Carton might fit in the station’s current weekday lineup, with his old afternoon slot still a strong performer since Tiki Barber took Carton’s place alongside Roberts.

Carton’s future at WFAN is likely in the hands of Audacy Chief Business Officer and New York Market President Chris Oliviero, who brought him back to the station after his prison sentence.
