Job recruiters captured two of the top 10 positions among radio’s largest advertisers based on spot count for the week of March 6-12, with Zip Recruiter (moving 5-4) out front with 46,186 spots, followed by Indeed (6-7) with 28,882 commercials.
Wireless carriers are also prevalent with Cricket (7-6) spending a third consecutive week in the top 10, airing 29,562 spots. As reported earlier by Inside Radio, Cricket hasn’t placed among radio’s top 10 advertisers on the weekly Media Monitors chart since the week of Aug. 10-16, 2020. Boost Mobile (9-10) isn’t far behind with 25,867 spots. There are a total of four carriers in the top 100, including Straight Talk at No. 44 and T-Mobile at No. 45. In a related category, Samsung is marketing its Galaxy smartphone on the AM/FM airwaves with 10,029 spots to rank at No. 59.
In the latest spot count list, the insurance category remains dominated by three providers: Progressive at No. 2 (No. 1 among paid advertisers), Liberty Mutual at No. 16, and State Farm at No. 21. SelectQuote, has gradually increased its radio presence and sits at No. 43 in the latest tally with 12,985 detections. GEICO, long a radio regular in the category, hasn’t appeared on the Media Monitors top 100 since December 2022.
Among seasonal advertisers, tax prep services are marketing consistently ahead of the April 18 tax deadline. Jackson Hewitt, with 20,721 spots, is in the lead at No. 18, followed by Optima Tax Relief at No. 48, and US Tax Shield at No. 68.
Home improvement retail giants Lowe’s and Home Depot are on the air at No. 23 and No. 32, respectively, but haven’t yet ratcheted up their weight for springtime planting and mulching season.
Meanwhile, iHeartMedia aired 90,610 promos for its iHeartRadio streaming service on its owned and operated stations. That’s 72% more than the week’s top paid advertiser, Progressive Insurance with 53,167.
For the week of March 6-12, 2023, the top ten on the Media Monitors tally are iHeartRadio at 1, Progressive at 2, Upside at 3, ZipRecruiter at 4, Babbel at 5, Cricket at 6, Indeed at 7, Swiffer at 8, Mattress Firm at 9 and Boost Mobile at 10.
