Winners Of The 2026 Edward R. Murrow Awards Announced.

The Radio Television Digital News Association will celebrate the national winners at the 2026 Edward R. Murrow Awards Gala Oct. 12 at Gotham Hall in New York City.


In Network Radio, NPR was the dominant winner, earning awards in Breaking News Coverage for “The Election of Pope Leo,” Digital for “The Trump Administration’s Dismantling of Immigration Courts,” Excellence in Innovation for its California wildfire investigations with KCRW, Excellence in Sound for “Making Music from the Sounds of War,” Excellence in Writing for “Bombs, Drugs, and Bones: Clearing the Detritus of War,” Feature Reporting for “As AI Advances, Doomers Warn the Superintelligence Apocalypse Is Nigh,” and News Series for “The State of the First Amendment.”


NPR and KCRW also were recognized for using firefighter broadcast and electricity data to investigate the California wildfires, while NPR’s Ukraine story examining a youth orchestra’s use of wartime sounds took the Excellence in Sound award.


ABC News Radio captured three Network Radio awards. “Texas Flood” won Continuing Coverage, “Start Here: Inside El Salvador’s Mega-Prison” won Hard News and “Devil in the Desert” took Podcast. ABC also won Sports Reporting for “Start Here: The F1 of Sailing.”


The now defunct CBS News Radio won Newscast for “CBS World News Roundup: Plane Crash at DCA” and took the category’s Overall Excellence award, one of the highest-profile honors in the Network Radio division.


Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting also earned multiple Network Radio honors, winning Excellence in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for “Will the National Parks Survive Trump?” and News Documentary for “The Landlord Gutting America’s Hospitals.” Reveal, The New York Times and Mississippi Today jointly won Investigative Reporting for “Abuse of Power: Beyond the Goon Squad.”


In Large Market Radio, WBUR Boston emerged as a major winner, taking Digital, Sports Reporting and Overall Excellence. Its sports entry examined young adults struggling with online sports betting, while its digital award recognized coverage of immigration enforcement conditions in Massachusetts.


Other prominent Large Market winners included KIRO-FM in Seattle for Breaking News Coverage of ICE protests; WCCO in Minneapolis for Continuing Coverage of the Annunciation Church and School mass shooting; WBEZ Chicago for Excellence in DEI and News Documentary; KYW Philadelphia for Hard News; and WGBH Boston for Investigative Reporting on ambulance costs in Massachusetts.


WESA Pittsburgh won News Series for “Double Jeopardy: From Classroom to Courtroom,” while “LAist” KPCC won Podcast for “Rebuilding a life, 100 miles at a time.” WLRN in Miami won Feature Reporting for its story about a hip-hop album created by inmates at Broward County jails.


The Small Market Radio awards highlighted a broad range of public radio journalism. KUNC in Greeley-Fort Collins, CO, won Overall Excellence, while Alaska Public Media, KYUK and KNBA shared Continuing Coverage for their Typhoon Halong reporting.


Other Small Market winners included Connecticut Public for Excellence in Innovation for “Meeting Monitor: Using AI to surface local news,” WUFT Gainesville for Digital, NHPR for Excellence in Writing and Hard News, and KBIA Columbia, MO, for Investigative Reporting.


Mississippi Public Broadcasting won Feature Reporting for coverage marking the 70th anniversary of Emmett Till’s murder. WUOT Knoxville won News Documentary for “Healing After Helene,” while Marfa Public Radio took News Series for “A Whole Other Country.”


North Country Public Radio earned Excellence in Sound for “A Winter Waterfowl Hunt on the St. Lawrence River” and Sports Reporting for “A Tree Rodeo Comes to Northern New York.”


The awards collectively underscore the continued breadth of radio journalism, from breaking news and investigative reporting to podcasts, digital storytelling, sound and innovation, with public radio organizations particularly prominent across the local-market categories.
