Wendy’s Takes The Lead In Radio’s Fast Food Wars.

The Strawberry Frosty is back for the summer. And so is Wendy’s, the maker of the frozen concoction, returning as a top ten radio advertiser. After delivering a sixth consecutive quarter of double-digit global same-restaurant sales growth, the fast feeder aired 34,761 spots on AM/FM the week of May 8-14, to move up to No. 8 on the Media Monitors spot count from No. 26 the week before.

Along with the big chart move, Wendy’s more than doubled its radio weight to 16,769 spots to blow past Taco Bell (No. 23) and perennial leader McDonald’s (No. 37).

Dairy Queen, meanwhile, spends a second consecutive week on the airwaves after not being present since last August. Also in the ice cream market, Blue Bell Creameries logs a third week in the top 100 after not placing there since last August.

Employment recruitment services ZipRecruiter (7-3) and Indeed (5-5) occupy two of the top 5 chart positions as filling job openings remains a challenge for businesses large and small. The remainder of the top ten for the most recent monitoring week remain radio regulars like Progressive, Babbel, Upside, The Home Depot, and Swiffer. This mark’s Progressive’s third week at No. 2 on the tally and as radio’s highest volume paid advertiser.

There are also some newcomers, including Kelley Blue Book at No. 12. The guide to help buyers research, price and shop for cars aired 26,359 spots, up from 24,381 one week earlier for its third week on the chart in all of 2023. And Florida Department Of Agriculture & Consumer Services spent a fourth consecutive week among the top 100 radio advertisers with 12,887 spots to rank No. 43.

For the week of May 8-14, 2023, the top ten on the Media Monitors tally are iHeartRadio at 1, Progressive at 2, ZipRecruiter at 3, Babbel at 4, Indeed at 5, Upside at 6, The Home Depot at 7, Wendy’s at 8, Grainger at 9, and Swiffer at 10.
