Webby Awards Name ‘Wiser Than Me’ Podcast Of The Year; iHeart Gets Podcast Company Nod.


Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Wiser Than Me has been named Podcast of the Year in the 2024 Webby Awards. It says Louis-Dreyfus has “made an outstanding contribution to digital entertainment” with the series produced for Lemonada Media. The podcast, launched in 2023, features Louis-Dreyfus in conversation with iconic women, giving them a chance to share their wisdom and experiences. “Louis-Dreyfus has wholeheartedly embraced the internet as a platform for connecting generations through meaningful, funny, and important conversations,” the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS) said in selecting Wiser Than Me as he Webby’s top podcast.


The winner of the Webby Podcast Company of the Year is iHeartMedia, which had 12 winners across the various Webby categories in addition to 20 nominations. IADAS says this award goes to the organization that has earned the most honorsacross the podcast categories and iHeart’s winners include Six Degrees with Kevin Bacon, Questlove Supreme, The Laverne Cox Show, Mobituaries with Mo Rocca, Unreformed: the Story of the Alabama Industrial School for Negro Children, Las Culturistas with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, and Supreme: The Battle for Roe.


IADAS also announced that tech journalist Kara Swisher, host of the On with Kara Swisher and Pivot podcasts for Vox Media, is the recipient of a Webby Lifetime Achievement award. “A masterful interviewer and moderator, Swisher has sat down with the most influential figures in technology and media, bringing their insights to a global audience,” the Webbys said of Swisher, adding, “Kara Swisher’s legacy will serve as an inspiration for generations of journalists and tech entrepreneurs across the globe.”

  • The Bald and the Beautiful with Trixie and Katya won the Webby Award for Comedy, Shows

  • Can’t Afford Therapy Podcast won the Webby Award for Best Indie Podcast, Features 

  • Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend won the People’s Voice Award for Comedy, Shows 

  • Katt Williams – Club Shay Shay won the Webby Award for Featured Guest, Individual Episodes

  • Las Culturistas with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang won the Webby Award for Comedy, Individual Episodes

  • The Laverne Cox Show won the Webby Award for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Shows 

  • NASA’s Curious Universe: Suiting Up for Space won the Webby Award for Science & Education, Individual Episodes

  • Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast won the Webby Award for Best Series, Features

  • Mobituaries with Mo Rocca won the People’s Voice Award for History, Shows

  • New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce won the People’s Voice Award for Best Co-Hosts, Features

  • Pod Save the World won the Webby Award for News & Politics, Shows

  • Scamanda won the Webby Award for Crime & Justice, Limited-Series & Specials

  • The Sounds of Nightmares won the People’s Voice Award for Best Branded Podcast or Segment

  • Supreme: The Battle for Roe won the Webby Award for Scripted (Fiction), Individual Episodes

  • TwentyOne 21: A Black AF Scripted Audio Comedy won the Webby Award for Best Indie Podcast - Limited Run, Features

  • The Vergecast won the People’s Voice Award for Technology, Shows


“This year’s Webby Winners represent work at the cutting edge of creativity and innovation,” said Claire Graves, President of the Webby Awards “They are best-in-class creators, entrepreneurs and companies who are taking giant strides to make something entirely new to entertain, help or inform people through the internet,” she said in the announcement. 


The winners of the 28th Annual Webby Awards will be celebrated during an awards ceremony on May 13 in New York.
