The iHeartPodcast Audience Network, made up of more than 33,000 podcasts, has made its debut on Triton Digital’s ranking of biggest sales networks in the U.S. during May. It shows iHeart enters the list in the top position, with average weekly users of more than 18.6 million listeners and average weekly downloads of 67.4 million last month.
The debut of the iHeart Audience Network – which includes not only shows iHeartPodcasts publishes, but also other publisher’s shows that it sells advertising for – pushed the SiriusXM Podcast Network out of its position atop Triton’s ranking of the biggest sales networks. SiriusXM slid back to second place with 12.9 million average weekly users and 38.5 million average weekly downloads.
Both NPR and Wondery have a claim on third place. In terms of weekly downloads, NPR ranked third, with 24.6 million on average. That put it ahead of Wondery’s 20.6 million.
But in terms of average weekly users, Wondery led during May. It had 7.2 million listeners each week on average according to Triton, while NPR had 6.4 million.
Fifth place also had a split decision. Audacy had 12.5 million average weekly downloads, edging out Audioboom, which had 12.3 million in May. But Audioboom had a more average weekly users,. with 5.1 million listeners versus 4.6 million for Audacy.
Triton says during May the top three podcasts based on downloads included NPR News Now, which again ranked No. 1 among the publishers it measures, followed by NPR’s Up First and NBCUniversal News Group’s Dateline NBC climbing to third place.

With the addition of iHeart to the Triton ranking, the company’s Stuff You Should Know was Triton’s top show debut in May. The series debuted at No. 6 in terms of downloads, and No. 10 in terms of the average number of weekly listeners.
Other iHeart shows now on the Triton ranker include several on-demand versions of iHeart broadcast radio shows, including The Breakfast Club, The Bobby Bones Show, The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show, The Dan Patrick Show, and The Herd with Colin Cowherd, among others.
Other debuts during the month included Wondery’s MrBallen’s Medical Mysteries, which entered at No. 81 in terms of downloads and No. 75 based on its average weekly audience size.
