The summer months brought a mixed bag, with some podcast networks seeing gains with others experiencing dips. But overall, Triton Digital’s June listening report on the U.S. market paints a picture that’s similar to a month earlier.
Triton says the iHeart Audience Network was again the top sales network last month, with 68.7 million average weekly downloads and 19.2 million average weekly users. It was followed once again by NPR, which ranked second with 27.6 million average weekly downloads and 7.2 million average weekly users. Audacy ranked third, with 14.7 million average weekly downloads and 5.5 million average weekly users.
They were followed by Audioboom, Cumulus Podcast Network and Paramount. Each held the same position on the ranker in June as in March, April and May. The only movement in the top in recent months has been among Soundrise, Salem Podcast Network and the BBC. That was again the case in June. Triton says the BBC rose one spot to No. 7 as its average weekly downloads total topped 2.6 million. Salem Podcast Network also moved up one place, with its 2.6 million total on the BBC’s heels. Both gained in the ranker as Soundrise slid back to No. 9 with average weekly downloads of 2.3 million. American Public Media remained in 10th place, the same position it held in May.
Triton Digital’s monthly rankings only include publishers that opt-in. They cover the reporting period of June 2-29.

In June, the top three podcasts based on downloads also remained the same for a third month, with NPR News Now and NPR’s Up First, followed by iHeart’s Stuff You Should Know holding the top spots.
The top three podcasts based on listeners also ranked the same for a third month in a row, led by NPR News Now and Up First, with the Cumulus Podcast Network’s Shawn Ryan Show in third.
Debuting shows for both downloads and listeners included This American Life (NPR), Relatos de la Noche (iHeart Audience Network) and What Happened to Talina Zar (iHeart Audience Network).
Triton says download-only debuts included Garage Logic (Gamut Podcast Network) and Murder: True Crime Stories(Audacy Podcast Network). And listener-only debuts included The LA Report (LAist Studios), The David Rutherford Show (iHeart Audience Network), Newshour (BBC) and Your Daily Prayer (Salem Podcast Network).
