The soapy streets of Wisteria Lane will be revisited in a new podcast that pays homage to the long-running “Desperate Housewives” television series. The show, which first premiered nearly 21 years ago and ran for eight seasons, has continued to have fans around the world. Now actress Teri Hatcher, her TV daughter actress Andrea Bowen, and her real-life daughter Emerson Tenney, are connecting for a rewatch series.
The new podcast titled Desperately Devoted from iHeartPodcasts will feature Hatcher, Bowen and Tenney revisiting the groundbreaking storylines, unforgettable characters and cultural moments that turned “Desperate Housewives” into a global phenomenon.
“When I’m out and about, I’m always meeting fans who are rewatching or watching the show for the first time. I even hear from some of them on Instagram,” says Hatcher. “So, I’m thrilled to partner with iHeartRadio on this podcast as a way to create a community for fans and to chat with my two amazing daughters about Wisteria Lane and all the life themes it inspires us to consider.”
While rewatching the series, the hosts will also use its themes as a springboard for broader conversations on women’s issues, relationships, parenting, sex, identity, and other hot topics. The producers say Hatcher and Bowen bring insider insight and firsthand memories from their time on set, while Tenney offers a fresh, modern perspective as she experiences the full series for the first time.
“As an avid podcast listener and a screenwriter, I leapt at the idea of creating the ‘Desperately Devoted’ podcast with my mom and Andrea,” says Tenney. “It’s the combination of two things I love — the opportunity to be part of a fun and inclusive space for podcast listeners, and the chance for me to watch an iconic piece of TV history in full for the first time! As a storyteller, I am so excited to dive into the rich, nuanced world of Desperate Housewives and explore how it relates to culture and identity today.”
For Bowen, the podcast offers her a new perspective on the series she was part of creating.
“Growing up on Desperate Housewives was a very unique and special experience and getting to revisit the show now as a 35-year-old mom-to-be will be sure to provide new perspectives, old memories and lots of interesting conversations along the way,” she says. “I am so excited to be taking this walk down Wisteria Memory Lane alongside Teri and Emerson, two women whom I absolutely adore, admire and learn from every week as we hop into our podcasting studio.”
Desperately Devoted debuts today. Episodes will be released weekly. The series is distributed by iHeartPodcasts and it will be available everywhere podcasts are heard.
