TextNow is expanding its wireless offering by making iHeartRadio available through its Free Flex Plan, giving eligible customers included 5G data access to stream music, live radio and other audio content while on the move.
The agreement represents the first major content partnership for the app-based mobile service provider and signals a broader effort by TextNow to build a content ecosystem around its wireless platform. The company says the move is designed to give customers greater flexibility in how they use mobile data while continuing to offer low-cost and free connectivity options.
The launch follows TextNow’s recent introduction of eSIM activation and flexible data plans, which allow customers to activate service directly through the app. With iHeartRadio now integrated into the Free Flex experience, users can activate a free eSIM and immediately begin accessing iHeartRadio’s catalog of live radio stations, playlists and personalized music channels.
TextNow says the partnership aligns with its strategy of moving away from the traditional wireless model of fixed monthly plans and long-term commitments. Instead, customers can activate data when needed, increase or decrease usage based on their lifestyle and remain connected through a nationwide 5G network.
“People don’t want their phone service locked into one rigid model anymore,” TextNow CEO Derek Ting said in the announcement. “At TextNow our mission is to make the old way of paying for a phone service obsolete.”
Ting said the addition of iHeartRadio demonstrates the company’s effort to provide more services at no additional cost while building a wireless experience centered around how consumers actually use their phones.
For iHeartMedia, the partnership extends the reach of its digital audio platform to millions of wireless users who may be seeking lower-cost connectivity options.
“iHeartRadio is built to be everywhere its listeners are — in the car, at home, on the go, and now as part of their phone plan,” Michael Biondo, President of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships for iHeartMedia, said. “This is the kind of partnership that puts listeners first, and we are proud to be TextNow’s first audio content partner.”
The Free Flex Plan includes nationwide talk and text service along with included 5G data access for select applications. Customers can purchase additional data when needed without entering traditional monthly contracts.
The iHeartRadio integration is available immediately for eligible Free Flex customers, giving TextNow its first significant step toward combining wireless connectivity with integrated digital content services.
