Sports Radio Vet Stephen A. Smith Returns To Audio. This Time On A Podcast.

Stephen A. Smith is one of America’s best-known sports media personalities, and he has had plenty of time on the radio. But since January 2020, Smith has been a television-only host. That will change as he will return to the audio format next month, hosting a podcast for Audacy’s Cadence13. New episodes of the Smith-hosted podcast Know Mercy will be released Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays starting September 26.

“It’s hard to put into words how excited I am about this opportunity,” said Smith in a statement. “To have the opportunity to do so with a podcast I personally own, with content I personally control, is an adventure I’ve waited to tackle head-on for my entire career.”

Unlike his earlier radio shows, Smith’s new podcast will talk more than sports. Cadence13 says it will also offer his unfiltered commentary on broad cultural topics and social issues to tackle the day’s headlines, including politics, entertainment, social issues, criminal justice, and business. Smith will regularly be joined on Know Mercy by a wide range of notable guests and thought leaders.

“Although my love for sports will never fade, neither has my zest for expanding my interest beyond the court or field of play,” Smith said. “I love news. I love entertainment. Above all else, I love attaching myself to, and touching on, things that are percolating in the minds of the masses — with no inhibitions.

Smith is currently a featured commentator on ESPN’s midday show “First Take” but he has a long history in audio. Smith joined ESPN in 2003 as an analyst, and two years later he began to host a syndicated ESPN Radio show from 2005 to 2008. Then from 2011 to 2014, Smith hosted a midday local show on “98.7 ESPN New York WEPN New York. Smith bolted to Fox Sports Radio where he hosted a morning show for a short time before he returned to ESPN. From 2011-2012 he also hosted a local show for “ESPN LA 710” KSPN Los Angeles. Then in September 2014, Smith began hosting the daily “The Stephen A. Smith Show” on SiriusXM. It then was picked up for a broadcast radio simulcast on WEPN and KSPN, and was later added to the national ESPN Radio Network until the show’s finale in January 2020.

“Stephen A. Smith is a larger than life talent and force of nature whose indelible passion, wit, and candor ignite every conversation he’s a part of, engaging millions of fans along the way,” said Chris Corcoran, Chief Content Officer at Cadence13. “We could not be more thrilled to add his singular, powerful voice to the Cadence13 lineup, and to bring Know Mercy to the world.”

Stephen A. Smith is represented by WME.
