NPR has tapped music industry veteran Sonali Mehta as Executive Director of NPR Music. She begins Sept. 22 and will be based in New York.
In her new role, Mehta will oversee the strategic vision for NPR Music, including deepening collaboration with NPR’s network of music stations, expanding the globally recognized Tiny Desk franchise, and exploring new opportunities to strengthen NPR’s position as a leading voice in music discovery and culture.
“I’m thrilled to join the incomparable NPR Music team,” Mehta said in a release. “NPR’s music properties, and the people behind them, serve as a masterclass in moving culture and breaking artists. As a fan of platforms like Tiny Desk, I am so excited to be in the room where it happens.”
Mehta brings a strong background in artist partnerships, content strategy, and business development. She began her career at YouTube, where she worked with more than 800 artists to grow audiences and support music releases. At Arista Records, she led over 50 global digital marketing campaigns. Most recently, she served as Chief of Staff at ADA, part of Warner Music Group.
