Smartphones Are Now As Necessary As Cars, Americans Say.

Based on a survey fielded in April among more than 1,000 adults, Ipsos found 76% saying they both have and need a smartphone. That’s up from 21% who said the same in 2011. In what might seem remarkable right now, almost half (46%) of Americans surveyed in 2011 said they did not want a smartphone. That figure now stands at just 5%.
