iHeartMedia’s WKTU New York (103.5) is turning one of radio’s most recognizable segments into a bold new animated experience. The wildly popular “War of the Roses” franchise from longtime host Sean “Hollywood” Hamilton will debut as an animated series on July 24. The project, produced in partnership with Woody Productions and ABoot Studios, is billed as the first-ever visual adaptation of the show, blending stylized animation, immersive audio, and a genre-bending soundtrack.
Hosted by Hamilton and co-host Marie, the series transforms true stories of cheating, betrayal, and emotional fallout—previously aired on KTU—into short-form animated episodes with a raw, edgy tone. “This show lets you feel the drama all around you — inspired by true stories, brought to life in a whole new way,” Hamilton said.
“War of the Roses” first captured audiences with its dramatic call-in format, where suspicious partners would “test” their significant others by offering a fake prize—often roses—to uncover possible infidelity. The animated version aims to retain the real-life tension and emotional twists, now amplified through visuals and sound design.
One of the show's technical innovations is its use of Eclipsa Audio, Google’s open-source spatial audio platform. With sound design handled by Vaudeville, the experience will feature 360-degree soundscapes, creating an immersive experience optimized for headphones and spatially aware smart devices.
In addition to its production value, the series is backed by a diverse and high-profile soundtrack. Artists contributing to the music include Sophie Powers, Peter DiStefano (Porno for Pyros), Dave Krusen (Pearl Jam), The Tiger Lillies, and Artikal Sound System, among others. The aim is to build cross-promotional energy with global music communities while enriching each episode’s emotional impact.
The series is also a win for rising creative talent. Produced by ABoot Studios in North Bay, Ontario, the project partners with Canadore College to engage student interns and recent graduates in media and game development, blending professional content production with talent development.
