SBS Faces March 1 Debt Deadline.

Spanish Broadcasting System is approaching a key financial deadline, with $310 million in 9.75% senior secured notes scheduled to mature on March 1. In recent filings, the Hispanic media company said it does not have sufficient cash on hand to repay the notes and warned that refinancing or repayment is not assured, raising substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern.

SBS said it has been pursuing alternatives to address the looming maturity, including potential asset sales and new financing arrangements. However, the company has not disclosed a definitive refinancing agreement or repayment plan.

The notes represent a significant portion of SBS’s capital structure, and the approaching due date comes amid ongoing pressure on advertising revenues. Political advertising, a key revenue driver in election years, is not expected to provide near-term relief this year.

As of now, the company has not announced whether it will repay, refinance, or restructure the debt. Investors and industry observers are watching closely for updates, which could include a refinancing deal, asset divestitures, or other measures to bolster liquidity ahead of the deadline.

SBS owns radio stations in major markets including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Miami and Puerto Rico. SBS also owns AIRE Radio Networks, a national Spanish-language radio network.
