The New York Mets announced Tuesday that they will introduce no-delay digital radio broadcasts for fans attending games at Citi Field beginning in 2026, aiming to synchronize the in-stadium experience with live play-by-play commentary.
The feature will be available via the MLB Ballpark app as part of a partnership with Audacy and SportsBug. The system is designed to eliminate the typical 30- to 90-second delay associated with most digital radio streams, allowing fans to hear broadcasters in real time while watching the action on the field.
Fans in attendance will be able to listen to Howie Rose, Keith Raad, and Pat McCarthy call games live, with the audio feed synced to on-field play. The service will be available on any mobile device and compatible with all wireless carriers at no cost.
The technology is already being used by Learfield for college sports in-stadium radio play-by-play broadcasts. ProWire offers a similar service and has partnered with the Tennessee Titans, and the MLB’s Washington Nationals and Kansas City Royals. StreamGuys has also made enhancements in its Ultra-Low Latency Streaming technology, expanding its in-venue radio play-by-play simulcasting for sports fans.
“Partnering with SportsBug to bring real-time radio audio to the ballpark will transform how fans connect with the game,” Mets VP of Business Operations John Ricco said, according to a report by amNY, a free daily in New York. “By syncing the atmosphere and energy of watching a game at Citi Field with the iconic voices of Mets Radio on Audacy, we’re delivering a more immersive and connected experience to our fans.”
Rose, who has been part of the Mets’ radio broadcast team since 2004, is expected to scale back his schedule this season. He will call all 81 home games and the three-game Subway Series in the Bronx against the Yankees. The 72-year-old broadcaster was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame in 2023.
