Producers of public affairs podcasts may have a category for their shows in some other awards shows, but now they are getting an awards program in their own dedicated program. Voxtopica, a company that specializes in non-profit and public affairs podcasting, is launching of The Timbre Awards, a new podcast awards program recognizing excellence in public-interest audio. Organizers say they will honor podcasts that prioritize accuracy, public understanding, and audience trust and effectively set a higher standard for civic and mission-driven storytelling.
“At a time when trust in media is fragile and attention is increasingly driven by extremes, The Timbre Awards are about rewarding a different standard,” Voxtopica CEO Richard Fawal says. “These awards recognize podcasts that slow people down, add context, and actually help audiences understand what’s at stake.”
The Timbre Awards celebrate podcasts and podcast teams that demonstrate excellence with criteria that includes a show’s measurable influence on public understanding or civic outcomes, its commitment to fact-based reporting and credibility built through transparency and consistency, and content that helps listeners learn, not just react. Awards will be divided into four categories, including best content, best podcast talent, most creative show, and the podcasts with the most impact. Entries must have published at least six episodes between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2025, unless the first episode was released on or after Sept. 1, 2025, in which case, the entry must have released a minimum of four episodes in 2025.
To be eligible, a podcast must be produced by nonprofits, advocacy organizations, public affairs teams, mission-driven companies, and independent creators focused on informing the public and strengthening democratic discourse. Podcast submissions for the inaugural Timbre Awards are now open. Find more details HERE. Winners will be announced June 1.
