Podcast Producer Workhouse Media Launches Sports Arm Headed By ESPN Veteran Scott McCarthy.

Former ESPN Audio VP Scott McCarthy has joined the content management and production company Workhouse Media as President of Workhouse Sports. McCarthy will work alongside CEO Paul Anderson and Executive VPs John McConnell and Keith Kauffman to expand the company that already produces podcast, radio, television, and digital content with a focus on the sports category.

“We are beyond fortunate to have Scott as part of the Workhouse family,” Anderson said in the announcement. “Scott is a smart, disruptive thinker whose background and entrepreneurial drive make him the perfect person to lead our new sports vertical.”

McConnell added, “I've worked alongside and across the table from Scott for 30 years. He is a best-in-class executive and is perfectly positioned in this role.”

McCarthy arrives at Workhouse Media after spending many years in the audio business. In addition to his corporate role at ESPN Audio, McCarthy had local oversight of “ESPN New York 98.7” WEPN New York and “ESPN LA 710” KSPN Los Angeles. Both stations are now operated by Good Karma Brands. He exited ESPN in April 2023 amongst a series of wide-ranging cuts.

McCarthy was elevated to VP of ESPN Audio in January 2020, rising from VP/GM of KSPN. He also served as Executive VP of ABC Radio Networks from 2001-2004 and as Senior VP of the ABC Broadcast Group from 2000-2001.

“I could not be more excited or honored to be joining the Workhouse Media team and getting the opportunity to work alongside Paul, John, and Keith,” McCarthy said in a statement. “Over the years, Workhouse has clearly established itself as the preeminent management company for talent and content developers to expand their brands and businesses across multiple entertainment platforms, and I look forward to helping Workhouse further develop their presence in the sports category.”

In jumping to Workhouse, McCarthy reunites with another longtime ABC Radio Veteran. John McConnell, who was a Senior VP of Programming at the radio network from 1989 to 2008, is now an Executive VP at Workhouse.

Among the podcasts that Workhouse has worked on are joint productions with KSL Podcasts including its hit Cold series and The Letter. Workhouse also has a talent rep business that has worked with radio personalities including Bobby Bones, Scott Shannon, Ellen K., Rickey Smiley, Cody Alan, and shows such as “The Breakfast Club,” “Red Eye Radio,” and “Johnjay & Rich and Fitz in the Morning.”
