Podcast Ads Deliver Strong Engagement, Host Trust.

Brands are still discovering the advantages of podcasts: they are highly attentive listening environments which cultivate trusted host relationships, where their ads are often experienced as part of the content rather than as interruptions.

A new report from iHeartMedia serves as a checklist of all the ways marketers can benefit from the effectiveness of advertising on podcasts. They create space for deeper engagement vs. fighting for a few seconds of attention, reach audiences when they’re focused, invested and receptive, and create powerful opportunities to connect with consumers through trusted voices and meaningful storytelling.

The numbers help tell the story: more than half of Americans are regular monthly podcast consumers, with weekly podcast consumers averaging nine episodes per week, and 80% listening to all or most of every episode they start.

For advertisers, those numbers are especially strong. The report notes that 75% of consumers say podcast hosts influence them the most, making podcasts the highest-rated influencer platform, with host-read ads driving 95% higher purchase intent, generating three times higher ad completion rates than YouTube, and producing 65% more attention than average digital, social and TV benchmarks. The icing on that cake? Two-thirds (67%) of consumers report exploring brands they hear about on podcasts.

The report also emphasizes that podcast advertising has moved beyond measuring impressions to supporting a range of business objectives. Campaigns can be evaluated across awareness, consideration, website traffic, purchase intent and conversions, with attribution and performance measurement extending throughout the consumer journey.

Perhaps most important in the current ad environment, podcasts can be successfully combined with radio and other media to boost reach and campaign performance. Research shows that combining radio and podcasts can unlock 85% of ad-supported audio consumption and drive 28% higher purchase intent.

Additionally, the report says, audio and podcast campaigns paired with social media have demonstrated significant performance gains, resulting in more touchpoints, more consistency and greater opportunities to reinforce brand messages through trusted voices.
