Veteran New York radio personality Patty Steele is launching “The Backstory with Patty Steele,” a bi-weekly short-form podcast in a partnership with Premiere Networks that explores pivotal moments in history and pop culture. Some of the stories the former WCBS-FM morning show co-host plans to explore are how bathing suits went from 30 pounds of wet wool to the thong; the original Olympics, in which with athletes competed completely in the nude; and an iconic inventor who stole his masterpiece.
“My fascination with these kinds of stories is all about a fun peek behind the curtain of what we think we know about famous folks, events and lifestyles,” said Steele. “When we discover these incredible backstories, it's a blast worth repeating to friends. I look forward to helping listeners deepen their connection to the past, so we can understand how we got to the present, and how to better map out our future.”
Steele co-hosted her final “Shannon in the Morning” show on Audacy classic hits WCBS-FM (101.1) with the Dec. 16 2022 retirement of New York radio icon Scott Shannon. She earlier co-hosted mornings with Shannon at “Z100” WHTZ and at the former hot AC WPLJ (95.5). In addition to her various stints with Shannon, Steele has served as a news anchor at Audacy news outlets WCBS (880), WINS (1010), and iHeartMedia talk WOR (710). Steele has worked alongside other marquee radio names, including Elvis Duran, Danny Bonaduce, and John Lander.
“Patty is a gifted storyteller, and we’re confident listeners are going to love her captivating exploration of these moments in our history,” said Julie Talbott, President of Premiere Networks. “‘The Backstory with Patty Steele’ is intriguing, entertaining and informative, and we can’t wait to share it with podcast fans.”
The podcast, distributed by iHeartPodcasts, launches July 31 with new episodes posted on Tuesdays and Fridays. Listen to the trailer HERE.
