The audience for late-night television talk shows has collapsed during the past two decades, with the top-rated “The Late Show” on CBS pulling in just an average 219,000 viewers in the critical 18-49 demo during the second quarter. But Nick Cannon believes there remains an audience looking for the traditional late-night talk show format, only he is reimagining it into a new podcast called Nick Cannon @ Night.
Cannon is launching a new weekly podcast with Wondery that will be hosted in front of a live audience and feature Cannon creating his own version of the old-school relationship advice call-in show. Each week, he will be joined by a panel of guests who will take listener calls and respond to their most intimate love, sex, relationships and dating questions. The show, which will be taped in Los Angeles, will then be released as both a traditional audio podcast as well as in a video format on YouTube and Wondery+.
In each episode, Nick taps one of his recurring subject matter experts, having them offer advice as they respond to listener questions via Nick’s personal DMs. Confirmed experts this season include Dr. Laura Berman (relationship expert), Dr. Viviana Coles (relationship and intimacy expert), Dr. Mike Dow (brain health, mental illness, relationship, addiction, and nutrition expert), Dr. Jamye Waxman (sex therapist and sex educator), and Dr. Kerry-Anne Perkins (medical expert; obstetrician and gynecologist).
Wondery says examples of segments that listeners can expect include man-on-the-street-style interviews where Cannon asks the public its opinions on debatable relationship questions, and Anonymous @ Night, where Cannon and his celebrity and expert guests respond to viewers’ anonymous sex and relationship questions. Topics this season span a wide range, including conversations about the science of attraction and online dating to provocative debates about threesomes and fetishes.
Cannon — who is the father of 12 with six different women — will also draw on his personal life, and his views on dating, fatherhood and modern relationships. “When it comes to his personal life, Nick has never shied away, unapologetically leaving the world curious about his views on dating, fatherhood and modern relationships. So, who better to offer advice?” says Wondery’s announcement.
Nick Cannon @ Night will debut on July 23. It marks the second collaboration between Cannon and Wondery, as the series debut comes on the heels of the We Playin’ Spades Season 3 premiere. In that show, Cannon and comedian/actress Courtney Bee bring celebrity guests to the spades table for laughs, conversation and no-holds-barred competition.
