Former NFL Pro Bowler Richie Incognito is moving deeper into sports media, launching a new company and a video podcast that will pair former players with the production experience behind some of ESPN and Fox Sports’ biggest studio shows.
Incognito and sports television producer Tyler Korn have launched Point of Attack Media, with “Initial Contact” serving as the company’s flagship show. The twice-weekly video podcast will be hosted by Incognito and two-time Super Bowl champion Christian Fauria and distributed by Playmaker.
“I am incredibly excited to launch ‘Initial Contact,’” Incognito says. “The game of football has given so much to me throughout my life, and creating this company and show is my way of giving back to the game.”
The podcast’s concept centers on using former players to explain the game rather than simply react to it. Incognito and Fauria — who spent 13 seasons in the NFL before working in sports radio — will break down film, strategy and what happens inside NFL locker rooms, with a rotating group of Hall of Famers, All-Pros, former head coaches and other football insiders expected to join them.
Incognito says the goal is to take viewers beyond highlights and explain “the chess match that plays out on the field from the perspective of the players who have actually lived in the trenches.”
The “Initial Contact” podcast debuts Sept. 8 before settling into a Monday and Friday release schedule. The show is also making an unusually ambitious first road trip, heading to Australia to provide on-site coverage during Week 1 of the NFL season.
“Heading to Australia for Week 1 is the perfect way to show our audience that we are going to go wherever the action is to deliver the absolute best insight,” Incognito says.
Point of Attack Media is positioning itself as more than a production company for Incognito’s new show. The founders say they plan to build a broader sports media business that gives former players, coaches and other insiders a direct platform for their expertise. Korn previously produced ESPN’s “First Take,” served as Executive Producer of FS1’s “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed,” and created the digital sports show “Arena: Gridiron.”
“Having spent my career building major sports television shows, I know how hard it can be for traditional media formats to capture the true depth of the game,” Korn says. “Point of Attack and ‘Initial Contact’ are designed to break those barriers, giving athletes an unprecedented platform to share their brilliant football IQ and on-field knowledge in ways they've never been allowed to before.”
Point of Attack says it will use “Initial Contact” to focus heavily on the mechanics of football, particularly the parts of the game that can receive less attention in conventional highlight and debate as it covers all 32 NFL teams rather than building its programming primarily around controversy and hot takes.
“We want to empower the guys who lived the game, while educating fans at a level they have never experienced,” Korn explains. “This is about taking the audience past the surface level of traditional sports media and providing a true, masterclass education in football.”
For Incognito, who spent 14 seasons in the NFL, the venture also marks another example of former professional athletes building media businesses around their own expertise rather than relying exclusively on traditional sports networks.
“The game of football has given so much to me throughout my life, and creating this company and show is my way of giving back to the game,” he says.
