The New York Times is signaling it plans to do more video with its podcasts as it has hired Brooke Minters to lead a new podcast video team. As an Executive Producer, she will oversee the editorial, production and style of podcast videos across the newspaper’s portfolio of shows. Times Video Director Solana Pyne says Minters is currently building a podcast video team for the Times. Among its internal hires are a senior producer and video journalists and editors.
Minters most recently has been a consultant to the Times, leading its experiments with podcast video and collaborating with the Times Audio team on new projects. Pyne says the videos they have already produced have been seen by “millions,” with clips from The Interview, Popcast, Modern Love and the Daily roundtable.
Prior to joining the Times, Minters worked as Editorial Director for Audio at The Verge, where she oversaw its podcast operations and podcast video strategy. Prior to that, she was the head of video at Politico. Minters has also led video teams at Gizmodo Media Group, Fusion, and AJ+.
“Brooke has all the qualities you look for in someone coming in to build something completely new,” says Paula Szuchman, Times Director of Audio. “She’s an ideas person who can also execute; a deep listener who quickly builds trust; and a seasoned journalist who is down to experiment and push new forms. I’m thrilled she’s here,” she says in the announcement.
