New York Times Adds Eleven To Its Audio Team.


The New York Times is ending the year with an announcement of eleven new hires to its audio team. “They bring a variety of skills and experience, and have already made our journalism stronger,” said Director of Audio Paula Szuchman in the announcement. Four of the additions come via Spotify’s Gimlet Media. The list of new hires includes—


  • Isabella Anderson joins the Times as a news assistant based out of the London office. She previously was an energy reporter at Bloomberg.

  • Rachel Cohn joins as producer on Hard Fork. She previously worked at CNN, where Cohn was a part of the founding audio team working to build out the network’s slate of podcasts. Cohn also produced CNN’s daily coronavirus podcast for the first year of the pandemic, helped develop and launch the health and science show Chasing Life, and worked alongside a senior CNN writer on a narrative investigative series called The James Brown Mystery. In her final role at CNN, she produced All There Is With Anderson Cooper. Prior to working at CNN, Cohn worked with Planet Money and Reply All.

  • Anna Foley joins the Times as a producer on The Run-Up. Prior to The Times, she spent five and a half years at Gimlet Media. There, Foley piloted a cooking podcast, produced a show about the World Cup, and, for most of those years, worked at Reply All.

  • Brendan Klinkenberg joins the Times as a senior editor on The Daily. He also arrives from Gimlet Media, where he was an executive editor. During his time at Gimlet, Klinkenberg was an editor on Mogul, Conviction and Resistance. He also spent time on The Journal, where he edited daily episodes as well as its limited-run series Hack Me If You Can and How to Build a Metaverse. Prior to Gimlet, Klinkenberg was a senior editor at Rolling Stone, where he led the magazine’s hip-hop coverage.

  • Caitlin Love joins the Times Audio team as a fact-checker. Love had been freelancing with New York Times Audio since 2021, when she fact-checked Day X, Katrin Bennhold’s five-part series about the German far right. She has also worked for This American Life.

  • Jessica Metzger joins the Times as a senior editor on The Headlines. She comes from the production company School of Humans, where she was the senior producer overseeing eight nonfiction narrative podcasts for iHeartPodcasts. Before moving to audio, she spent most of her career producing news and political programming at CNN.

  • Austin Mitchell returns to the Times as a supervising producer of development. He comes from the podcast company Novel, where he was a creative director. Before that, he was with The New York Times as a senior producer on The Daily. Mitchell began his audio career at Gimlet Media.

  • Alyssa Moxley joins the Times as a Europe-based audio engineer. Since December 2022, she has worked as a freelance engineer on Hard Fork. She has worked in diverse freelance audio roles, including location production, field recording, sound design, composition, mixing and engineering for podcasts, cinema and artistic projects.

  • Daniel Ramirez joins the Times as an audio engineer, based in Los Angeles. He joins from Gimlet Media/Spotify, where he served as the audio engineer/sound designer for the scripted fiction and new show development departments. Before Gimlet, Ramirez served as principal sound designer and mixing engineer for Crooked Media’s The Wilderness, Missing America and America Dissected. And he was a media designer for six years at American Public Media, contributing to the “Marketplace” suite of programming and The Dinner Party Download. Prior to working in podcast production, he worked in the recording arts at music studios in Hollywood and Malibu.

  • Patricia Sulbarán joins as a producer on Reporter Reads. Until recently, Sulbarán was a producer for the podcast and public radio show “Latino USA,” where she produced narrative and investigative stories, as well as interviews featuring artists and creators. Before that, she served as a U.S. correspondent based in Los Angeles for the BBC’s Spanish language service. Patricia also contributed to BBC News and the BBC’s World Service as a bilingual multimedia producer and field reporter. She began her career as a radio journalist in Colombia, shortly after migrating from her home country of Venezuela.

  • Devon Taylor joins the Times Audio team as a senior editor on The Daily. She arrives from Gimlet Media, where she served as a supervising editor on a number of shows, including Crime Show, “Motherhood Sessions and Stolen. Devon was also the editor of Conviction: American Panic.
