New York’s Z100 Remains America’s Most Listened-To CHR Station.

After 42 years, “Z100” WHTZ is still a flamethrower.

The iHeartMedia CHR, which made its debut in August 1983, ranks at the top of Inside Radio’s TOP 10 stations in the format, with a commanding 2.4 million cume, based on delivery of persons 6+ in Nielsen’s PPM markets during its winter and spring 2025 waves.

“Z100” is the home base for the nationally syndicated “Elvis Duran and the Morning Show,” which began in 1996 after Duran moved from hosting afternoons on the station. That same year, WHTZ held its first “Jingle Ball” before the annual December concert became an iHeartMedia franchise, as it spread to many of the company’s CHRs.

Showing that iHeart and CHR are just about synonymous, the company claims eight of the top 10, including four of the top five. KIIS FM (102.7) Los Angeles, which began playing the hits in 1976 and has been home to the also-syndicated “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” since 2004, comes in second with a 1.7 million cume.

Placing third and fourth are iHeart’s “103.5 Kiss FM” WKSC Chicago, where “The Fred Show” has been a morning fixture since 2010, and “106.1 Kiss FM” KHKS Dallas, flagship of the syndicated “Kidd Kraddick Morning Show” since 1992.

The only two non-iHeart stations making the cut are back-to-back in the top 10. Rounding out the top five is Cumulus Media’s KRBE (104.1) Houston, a former Marconi Award winner of “CHR Station of the Year,” where Roula Christie and Ryan Chase have hosted mornings since 2006. Just below, ranking sixth, is Bonneville’s “99.7 Now” KMVQ San Francisco.

The iHeart stations placing seventh and eighth both feature long-running morning hosts. “Kiss 108” WXKS-FM Boston’s Billy Costa began in 1980 as part of the “Matty [Siegel] in the Morning” crew, while “Channel 95.5” WKQI Detroit’s “Mojo in the Morning” is celebrating 25 years on air.

The stations ranked ninth and 10th are among iHeart’s newest and oldest CHRs. “Hot 99.5” WIHT Washington, DC made the flip in 2001, while KDWB Minneapolis began spinning the hits on the AM band in 1959 before moving to FM in 1984.
