Audacy’s WFAN-AM/FM (660/101.9) New York, which became America’s first all-sports radio station in 1987, tops Inside Radio’s TOP 10 ranking of sports-formatted stations in PPM markets, based on weekly cume delivery of persons 6+ during Nielsen’s Q2 2026 wave (April-to-June three-month average).

WFAN, a former NAB Marconi Award winner of Sports Station of the Year and Legendary Station of the Year, comes closest to the million-cume mark at 953,400. The flagship of the Yankees, Giants, Nets and Devils, WFAN’s weekday lineup has included Boomer Esiason in mornings since 2007, with Craig Carton, initially partnered with Esiason, currently handling PM drive.

WFAN is one of six Audacy sports stations in the top 10, where the company claims all of the top four. Coming in second is “Sportsradio 94” WIP-FM Philadelphia, a 2026 Marconi Sports Station of the Year nominee and the station with the second-longest run of those in the top 10, signing on in 1988.

Placing third is 2026 Marconi Major Market Station of the Year nominee, WSCR-AM/FM “104.3 The Score” (670/104.3) Chicago, home of the Cubs’ and Bulls’ games, where afternoon drive features station veterans Matt Spiegel and Laurence Holmes. Fourth is WXYT-FM “97.1 The Ticket” Detroit, flagship of all four of the market’s professional sports teams — the Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings.

Rounding out the top five is “AM 570 LA Sports” KLAC Los Angeles, co-owned by iHeartMedia and the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers. It’s the radio home of Dodgers and L.A. Clippers games, where morning host Dan Patrick and PM drivers Petros Papadakis and Matt “Money” Smith have been entertaining sports fans for two decades.

iHeartMedia lands two stations in sports talk’s top 10, with KFXN-FM “Sports Radio KFAN” Minneapolis ranked seventh. Celebrating its 35th year on air in 2026, the flagship of the Vikings, Timberwolves, Wild and WNBA’s Lynx has featured “Bumper to Bumper with Dan Barreiro” in afternoons since 1992.

Two other station owners are represented in the top 10: Bonneville with eighth-place “Seattle Sports 710” KIRO-AM, radio home of the Seahawks and Mariners; and Beasley Media Group with ninth-ranked “98.5 The Sports Hub” WBZ-FM Boston, where Mike Felger and Tony “Mazz” Massarotti have ruled afternoons since the station signed on in 2009.

Boston is the only market with two sports stations in the top 10, as Audacy’s WEEI-FM (93.7) lands at 10th. The Red Sox flagship, also a 2026 Marconi Sports Station of the Year nominee, wakes up sports fans with 35-year market veteran Greg Hill.

Audacy’s other station to make the cut is sixth-ranked “105.3 The Fan” KRLD-FM Dallas, play-by-play home of the Cowboys, Texas Rangers and, starting this coming NBA season, the Mavericks.

It’s worth noting that due to the rankings based on Q2 2026 — covering Nielsen data from April through June — two additional Audacy sports stations may be under-represented compared to their current performance: “97.1 The Fan” KNX-FM Los Angeles, which signed on May 11; and KILT-AM, now branded as “95.7 The Fan” KIKK-AM/FM (610/95.7) Houston, which added its FM simulcast Aug. 13, just in time for the Houston Texans flagship’s NFL game coverage. The KILT-AM call letters shifted to “The Bet 650 AM.”
