Magellan AI: Podcast Ad Spending Hits 2026 High in August.

Podcast advertising spending bounced back in August, with the top 15 advertisers investing a combined $61.9 million — the highest monthly total of 2026 for Magellan AI’s ranking of the biggest advertisers. The August total was up about 9% from July’s $56.7 million and returned spending to the roughly $60 million range that has defined much of 2026.
The August rankings showed broad-based strength as Quince remained podcasting’s biggest advertiser, increasing its August investment to $7.6 million. Amazon moved into second place with $6.4 million, followed by BetterHelp at $5.9 million. T-Mobile ranked fourth at $5.5 million, while Toyota rounded out the top five at $5.4 million. All five increased spending from July.
Sports remained the dominant destination for major advertisers, serving as the top genre for seven of the 15 biggest spenders, including Amazon, Toyota, Progressive, PepsiCo, DraftKings, Google and Verizon. Comedy was the primary genre for five advertisers — Quince, BetterHelp, Wayfair, Helix Sleep and Squarespace — while T-Mobile, SimpliSafe and Shopify leaned most heavily into news podcasts.
Perhaps more notable than the August rebound is how quickly spending returned to its established range following July’s dip. Monthly spending by the top 15 had remained at $58 million to $61.5 million throughout the first half before slipping to $56.7 million in July. August’s $61.9 million total is the highest monthly figure we have tracked so far this year, edging past May’s $61.5 million.
The latest numbers bring combined spending by the top 15 monthly advertisers to approximately $479.6 million during the first eight months of 2026, according to Magellan AI data.

Podcast advertising also saw a sharp rebound among its fastest-growing advertisers in August. Magellan AI’s top 15 “movers and shakers” spent a combined $11.2 million, up from $6.4 million in July, with one advertiser accounting for a particularly large share of the increase.
OpenAI led the list by a wide margin, increasing podcast spending to $4.8 million from $174,200 in July, a 2,656% month-to-month jump. The company alone accounted for more than 40% of the spending among August’s top 15 movers.
Crocs ranked second at $1.2 million after spending $272,400 the prior month, while She’s Birdie increased spending fivefold to $968,400. Flora entered the rankings with $871,700 in estimated spending, and Vinted surged from just $200 in July to $684,600 in August.
The rest of the list illustrates the broad range of advertisers scaling podcast campaigns. Match Group increased spending to $495,400, while Q&B Foods reached $410,900. Lucky Hands, Equinox Fitness Club and Ernesta appeared after reporting no prior-month spending, while Rakuten, LEGO Group, Prenuvo, Delta Air Lines and Orangetheory Fitness all posted sizable increases.
August’s rebound also pushes spending by brands appearing on Magellan’s monthly movers and shakers lists to approximately $112 million through the first eight months of the year. The totals fluctuate significantly from month to month, but the continuing turnover shows that brands across a wide range of categories are testing podcasting, and in some cases are quickly scaling their investment.

Magellan AI’s rankings are based on advertising activity detected across the top 3,000 podcasts in the U.S. The company uses a proprietary modeling system to estimate advertiser spending, incorporating factors such as ad load, episode downloads, CPM estimates, ad formats, network revenue data, and brand share-of-voice across individual shows. The model is continuously refined as new market data becomes available, providing a snapshot of the advertisers making the largest investments in podcasting each month.
