Magazine Publisher Meredith Expands Into Audio With More Podcasts.

Magazine publisher Meredith is doubling down on podcasting, launching four new shows during the next few weeks tied to print titles Allrecipes, Parents, Southern Living and Travel + Leisure. “Podcasts present a growing opportunity for our trusted brands to tell resonant stories in ways that are possible only through voice technology and the intimate listening environment it provides,” said Catherine Levene, President of Meredith Digital.

The first to launch is Homemade, a food-focused podcast from Allrecipes. It is hosted by author and Next Food Network Star finalist Martie Duncan, who will speak with celebrated cooks of all stripes to reveal the memories and traditions behind their favorite foods. It launches today (May 27). Next is Biscuits & Jam, tied to Southern Living magazine. It features Editor-in-Chief Sid Evans interviewing legendary musicians about their hometowns, their big breaks, Southern culture, and the Southern food they love. It launches on June 2. The following week Parents magazine bows We Are Family. Hosted by celebrity fitness entrepreneur and LGBTQ advocate Shaun T. Firness and Julia Dennison of Parents.com, the We Are Family podcast will feature conversations about today’s modern family, in all its diversity. And then on June 10, Travel + Leisure magazine will launch its podcast Let’s Go Together. Hosted by travel expert Kellee Edwards, the series discusses inclusivity in travel and how travel can help create a new perspective on cultures and communities.

“As we continue to expand our podcast programming, we’ll engage and entertain both new and existing audiences through authentic conversations and diverse perspectives that offer a mix of star power, escapism, advice, and timely insights,” Levene said in the announcement.

Each of the new shows will have a dozen episodes in their premiere seasons. Shows will range in length from 20 to 40 minutes. They will be promoted across Meredith’s print, digital and social platforms.

“While we began planning these new podcasts long before the COVID-19 outbreak,” said Mel Inman, VP of Digital Content Strategy and Operations at Meredith, “we’re delighted to debut these series at a time when people are craving content and experiences that not only entertain but inspire, inform and bring us together.”

Meredith entered the podcast business when it released shows tied to its other magazines, including Entertainment Weekly’s The Awardist, EW On Set and Binge and Food & Wine’s Communal Table. It has also embraced audio by releasing daily audio series for smart speakers tied to its Parents, Better Homes & Gardens, Entertainment Weekly, People, Allrecipies and Real Simple brands.
