One year after public radio veteran Sam Sanders teamed up with KCRW Los Angeles for a new podcast, the show is doubling its production. Starting next month, “The Sam Sanders Show” will begin to publish two episodes each week as a way to offer more timely takes on pop culture moments. Sanders says it will also address a recurring conundrum he has had with the new series.
“Something happened after we launched the show. We’d finish our weekly tapings, and I’d always have more to say, and more questions to ask,” said Sanders. “Going to twice-a-week gives us more room for curiosity, reflection and reaction. I’m so excited to share even more with our listeners and viewers.”
Under the new schedule, episodes will be released Wednesdays and Fridays. On the show, Sanders dives into the big questions behind the entertainment we love and hate, with guests spanning comedians, celebrities, and cultural thought leaders. KCRW says the new second weekly episode will focus on timely reactions to pop culture moments, where Sanders will be joined by a rotating crew of his smartest and funniest friends.
Since February, PRX has distributed a version of “The Sam Sanders Show” to public radio stations. It is now heard on over 100 stations nationwide. The new second weekly episode of the podcast will be included as a segment in the broadcast version of the show.
Sanders previously hosted the “Into It” podcast for Vox Media. The series launched in July 2022 after the longtime NPR host made the leap to lead what was said to be the flagship culture podcast for Vulture, New York Magazine’s culture and entertainment site. But it pulled the plug on the series in October 2023.
Sanders is also a co-host of the “Vibe Check” podcast with poet and writer Saeed Jones and journalist and Broadway producer Zach Stafford. Earlier he hosted the “It’s Been a Minute” podcast and radio show for NPR. He was also one of the original co-hosts of “NPR’s Politics Podcast,” which launched in 2015.
