After simulcasting CHR “Q102” WIOQ for two days, iHeartMedia Philadelphia is now playing non-stop music from Bad Bunny on WISX (106.1) along with promos and sweepers in Spanish, alluding to a new Spanish music station coming on Friday, March 11.
A translation of the promos airing on WISX since noon on Thursday (March 10) says “a new station just for Latinos, coming tomorrow at noon.”
The station will fill a void in Philly, where the market’s population is 9.5% Hispanic, according to Nielsen. It is the only top 10 market without a Spanish-language station on FM.
After three years as a soft AC outlet, “106.1 The Breeze” ceased for a simulcast of “Q102” on Tuesday. Morning host Valeri Knight posted a video that morning telling listeners she was terminated ahead of the imminent change in format.
In Nielsen’s January 2022 PPM survey, WISX posted a 3.3 (6+), trailing Audacy AC “B101” WBEB (4.8) and Audacy classic hits sister WOGL (98.1), which had a 4.5 in the same period.
