Ideastream’s Mark Rosenberger, Jenny Northern To Retire.

Ideastream Public Media Chief Content Officer Mark A. Rosenberger and General Manager Jenny Northern will retire Oct. 1 after decades of service to public media in Northeast Ohio.

The two longtime executives have played key roles in shaping Ideastream’s content and broadcast operations as the organization expanded across television, radio and digital platforms.

“Mark and Jenny have dedicated many years of extraordinary service to public media and have had a lasting impact on our organization and the communities we serve,” said Kevin Martin, president and CEO of Ideastream Public Media. “Their leadership has helped shape both the content we create and the ways we deliver it to audiences across Northeast Ohio.”

Rosenberger joined WVIZ in 1988 and has spent nearly four decades with the organization. He became Ideastream’s first Chief Content Officer in 2018, overseeing journalism, programming and content strategy across television, radio and digital platforms.

He previously served as managing editor of content and held several production and programming positions at WVIZ. During his tenure, Rosenberger led local and nationally distributed programming covering arts and culture, civic affairs, education and community issues.

“When I walked through the doors at WVIZ in 1988, I could never have imagined how dramatically the ways we create and deliver content would change,” Rosenberger said. “What hasn’t changed is why we do this work. We create local content to serve our community and illuminate the world around us.”

Northern has led Ideastream stations for more than 25 years, overseeing significant changes to the organization’s radio and broadcast services.

As Senior Vice President and General Manager of WCLV, then owned by Radio Seaway Inc., Northern helped guide the station’s 2010 move to the Idea Center, transfer of its license to Ideastream and transition to noncommercial status.

She continued managing WCLV after the transfer and took on oversight of WCPN (90.3) in 2018. In 2020, she became General Manager of Ideastream’s broadcast platforms, including WVIZ PBS and the corresponding digital services.

Northern led the integration of WKSU and WCPN programming and sound in 2022, creating a primary NPR news and information service and accompanying HD services for Northeast Ohio.

In 2024, she assembled and directed the team behind JazzNEO, a full-time jazz service that launched in February of that year as a streaming and HD Radio service. JazzNEO expanded its reach with the addition of an analog signal in October 2025.

“I’m deeply grateful for having had the opportunity to serve Ideastream Public Media and contribute to the organization’s mission and success,” Northern said. “I’m retiring with great confidence that this dynamic public service-driven organization will continue to thrive and serve the region with dedication and excellence.”

Before joining the public media organization, Northern founded and operated Encore Marketing Inc., which worked with arts organizations and arts-focused companies. She was vice president and general manager of WQRS in Detroit from 1991 to 1997 and previously held management positions at WWWE, now WTAM, and WERE in Cleveland.

Rosenberger and Northern also were involved in developing Ideastream’s latest strategic plan, helping establish the organization’s priorities and direction for the next three years and beyond.
