It’s fall cleanup and winter prep time as the nation’s big box home improvement retailers promote special deals on outdoor power equipment, snow blowers and “everything you need to decorate your home for the holidays.” Radio is part of the media mix as Lowe’s leaps 13 positions up the weekly spot count tally to reach No. 1 for the first time this year. Lowe’s doubled its spot load to 52,166 occurrences for the week of Oct. 23-29. That’s 17,000 more than the Home Depot ran, even as it advances 8-6.
With cold and flu season approaching, Vicks, the cold relief medication from Procter & Gamble, continues in the top five radio advertisers of the week, according to Media Monitors. It is one of 13 P&G brands in the latest top 100. The cellular war between TracFone Wireless brand Straight Talk and Dish Wireless’ Boost Mobile continues unabated with the former at No. 9 with 31,291 spot airings and the latter at No. 10 with 30,754.
As Americans begin early Christmas shopping, department stores are using radio to lure them in the door or online. Macy’s ran 30,325 radio spots (No. 11) with Kohl’s placing 11,117 (No. 45) and discount department store Burlington running 7,919 ads to rank No. 73.
The latest tally shows eight pharmaceutical companies or pharmacy chains on the air, led by AbbVie at No. 16, Pfizer at No. 19 and Moderna at No. 20.
For the week of Oct. 23-29, 2023, the top ten on the Media Monitors tally are Lowe’s at 1, Vicks at 2, ZipRecruiter at 3, Babbel at 4, Upside at 5, “13 days of Halloween” podcast at 6, Discover at 7, the Home Depot at 8, Straight Talk at 9, and Boost Infinite at 10.
